Climate Action Plan for LA

Los Angeles Climate Action Plan
Building a More Resilient Los Angeles: A roadmap for a more equitable and greener LA
On April 16, 2026, Mayor Karen Bass released a comprehensive Climate Action Plan that outlines actions the City is taking to meet its ambitious climate goals and accelerate the City’s current climate work. The plan comprises more than 50 actions that deliver concrete, measurable climate outcomes. It creates a clear path for the City to reach carbon neutrality by 2045.

The vision of the Bureau of Engineering is to lead the transformation of Los Angeles into the world’s most livable and resilient city. To realize this vision, our mission is to serve all Angelenos by delivering innovative, sustainable, and high-quality infrastructure.

We turn this commitment into action across our project portfolio by enforcing zero-emission standards during construction and operation, selecting low-carbon materials to drive down embodied carbon, and systematically targeting LEED, NET-ZERO  and ENVISION certifications to ensure peak environmental performance.

LEED Green Building Certification

In 2001 the City of Los Angeles was one of the first large cities in the United States to adopt a policy that required the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED) green building certification for all new construction and major renovation municipal buildings over 7,500 square feet or larger.

The Bureau of Engineering has completed 64 LEED-certified municipal projects totaling 1,885,997 square feet in building area, achieving 6 Platinum, 14 Gold, 18 Silver, and 26 Certified ratings.
